NRL TO SHOW MATCHES ON FOX SOCCER PLUS
The NRL announces matches will be broadcast in America on Fox Soccer Plus. Read the story here.
TRAINING BEGINS FOR 2012
The Slayers will begin training on 9 April at 6:45pm at the Raoul Wallenberg pitch in preparation for the 2012 season. Training will be held on Monday and Wednesday nights. If you are interested in playing or just want to say hello, drop by the pitch as everyone is welcome.
SLAYERS ANNOUNCE PRE-SEASON MATCHES
The Slayers have scheduled two pre-season matches along with their Jamaica tour. In the first match we will take on the Britsh Royal Marines on 24 April at 6pm at the Raoul Wallenberg Pitch on the mall in Washington, DC and on 13 May, we take on the New Zealand Police at 5pm at Gonzaga College High School. Come on out to support the Slayers!
SLAYERS FIRST US SQUAD TO TOUR JAMAICA
Jamaica Hurricanes Rugby League and the USA Rugby League Washington DC Slayers formally announce their upcoming match set for May 5, 2012 in Kingston, Jamaica. The match was the brain child of Dane Campbell who initiated contact with the Slayers last summer.
Negotiations were concluded last week with the Slayers accepting the invitation to visit and final details are still in the works with possible venues including the National Stadium. The event will mark the first time an American side has played in Jamaica and the honor is not lost on the Slayers. “We’re truly honored to be the first US side to be invited by the Hurricanes. Jamaica and the USA share a great love for Rugby League and this event is huge for both nations. We look forward to the experience,” said a member of the Slayers board of directors.
Of the event, Campbell offered, “this will be a massive opportunity for the Hurricanes to show to the greater North American rugby league public that we are capable of hosting major events and teams and doing it in a true Jamaican way. It will be great to have the DC Slayers as the first team to experience our hospitality and it will give our players a real drive and determination to strive towards over the coming months.”
Additional details will be released as they become available.
2012 IMPORTS ANNOUNCED
Selections were difficult and for the 2012 season the Slayers have selected three import players; Ben Webber, Nick Watson, and Martyn Nicoll.
Ben and Nick hail from New South Wales and have played most of their footy with the Wingham Tigers with Ben having trialled for the Newcastle Knights, Sydney Roosters, and Gold Coast Titans and was asked to play for the Tweed Coast Seagulls.
Martyn hails from Pontefract, West Yorkshire and has played for the Wakefield Trinity Wildcats, Featherstone Rovers, and most recently for the Oulton Raiders. Martyn has represented Scotland "A" this past fall with test matches against Ireland and Wales.
The Slayers look forward to what these three can bring to the 2012 USARL season. Join us in welcoming Ben, Nick, and Martyn to the Slayers family!
